The song isn't recognised.
Hold the phone closer to the music and press REC again; quiet or very noisy places make it harder. Matching needs a connection. If the app can't use the microphone, turn it on in the iPhone's Settings app, under Hooklings.
Is the app recording me?
No. It listens only while you press REC, for a few seconds, and the audio never leaves your phone: only an anonymous fingerprint goes to Apple to name the song. More in the privacy policy.
Why did my friend get the same Hookling?
Because it's the same song. Every song hatches the same Hookling on every phone. How you heard it (the tempo, key, loudness and lead instrument of the moment) still shapes its personality.
Where is my collection saved?
On your device and in your iCloud, so it follows you to your other iPhones and iPads signed in with the same Apple Account. Settings → iCloud in the app shows whether it's syncing.
I don't want song titles kept.
Turn off Settings → Remember songs: new catches keep no song title or artist. Settings → Hide explicit song titles hides explicit titles wherever they'd show.
I joined Backstage on another device.
Open More → Backstage and tap Restore, signed in with the same Apple Account.
How do I cancel Backstage?
In More → Backstage → Manage subscription, or in your App Store account settings. Cancel at least a day before the renewal date; Backstage stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
I want to play the tutorial again.
Settings → Replay the tutorial shows the tips again. Every lesson battle can be replayed from the Liner Notes.
